Symposium on Challenges in Nuclear Physics 2010
14th-15th of October 2010
The symposium will be dealing predominantly with topics related to Nuclear Structure, Hadron and Chaos Physics, the Quark-Gluon-Plasma and Accelerator Physics. These topics represent the major research areas of HIC for FAIR. The lectures at the workshop will shed light on the present state of the art with respect to the different fields mentioned above as well as the development of a coherent research programme between HIC for FAIR and the Darmstadt collaborative research center SFB 634 Kernstruktur, nukleare Astrophysik und fundamentale Experimente bei kleinen Impulsberträgen am supraleitenden Darmstädter Elektronenbeschleuniger (S-DALINAC).
The workshop will not only provide time for intensive discussions but will also furnish a great opportunity to present the future research activity to a large body of participating Ph.D. students and Post Docs.

Arriving at Frankfurt Airport
The HEAG Airliner is a bus shuttle service which provides a direct connection between the airport and the railway station in Darmstadt. A booklet with further informations and a timetable can be downloaded here.
Arriving by train at Darmstadt Main Station
You have a couple of choices. Tram (street car) lines are denoted by numbers, bus lines by letters of the alphabet. Take either
- tram line 2 direction „Böllenfalltor“, exit at „Schloß“ or
- tram line 3 direction „Lichtenbergschule“, exit at „Schloß“ or
- tram line 5 direction „Kranichstein“, exit at „Luisenplatz“ or
- bus line K direction „Lichtwiese“, exit at „Schloß“ or
- bus line H direction „Kesselhutweg“, exit at „Schloß“
From there, our institute's building is within walking distance (see map on right)
From Downtown Darmstadt
Please follow the red line on the map to the right which leads you to our institute in building S2/14.
Travelling by car
You can reach Darmstadt via motorways A5 and A67. Leaving at exit 'Darmstadt/Griesheim' and following the signs 'Innenstadt' will guide you directly onto 'Rheinstraße'.
