Microscopic description of fission: a gentle introduction
2026/06/10
Prof. Dr. Luis Robledo (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid)
Fission is a unique phenomenon of the dynamics of heavy atomic nuclei that is still far from being fully understood from a microscopic point of view in spite of the many decades since its experimental discovery. In the talk I will introducebasic ideas how to describe fission from a simple phenomenological perspective and how those ideas are implemented nowadays with microscopic methods mostly based on the mean field as an starting point. The goal is to describe basic fission observables like fission life time, and fragment's properties like mass distribution, total kinetic energies, angular momentum, etc. Both spontaneous and induced fission will be discussed.
