Prototyping and construction of the timing array for the HYPER experiment at CERN
Master Thesis
HYPER is a new project aiming at synthesising new hypernuclei by use of antiprotons at the Antimatter Factory of CERN. HYPER aims at the spectroscopy and measurement of the binding energy of 200 hypernuclei. The project is in close collaboration with TU Munich and GSI.
During the thesis, a prototype module for the timing layer will be designed and built. The detector is considered to be built from LySO:Ce crystals and readout by silicon photomultipliers (SiPM). A time resolution below 40 ps is targets. The prototype will be characterized in beam to validate the chosen technical solutions.
