Design and construction of the gamma detector for the HYPER experiment at CERN

Master Thesis

HYPER is a new project aiming at synthesising new hypernuclei by use of antiprotons at the Antimatter Factory of CERN. HYPER aims at the spectroscopy and measurement of the binding energy of 200 hypernuclei. The project is in close collaboration with TU Munich and GSI.

During the thesis, the geometry of the new detector will be optimised from simulations. Simulations for physics cases will be performed and will help in fine tuning the experimental setup. A focus will be made on the gamma detector for hypernuclei electromagnetic decays. A prototype of the gamma detector based on scintillator material read-out by silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) for hypernuclei spectroscopy will be built and characterized.
