Optimisation of the HYDRA time-projection chamber for hypernuclei studies at R3B, GSI/FAIR

Bachelor Thesis

The hypernuclei program at R3B at GSI/FAIR aims at producing light hypernuclei from relativistic light ion collisions and perform their missing mass spectroscopy from their mesonic decay. The experimental setup relies on the detection of decay pions with the HYDRA time projection chamber inside the GLAD dipole magnet. In this Bachelor thesis, the candidate will perform validation measurements with the TPC with laser tracks and cosmic rays. The parameters of the TPC will be optimised. The detector will be installed in the experimental zone during the thesis, before the physics experiment to take place in September 2025.
