CRYRING News
2018/04/16
During the last beam time at CRYRING from 12.03.-23.03 the ring was operated with 24 Mg + lowly charged ions.. The ions were injected into the ring and subsequently accelerated for the first time. The acceleration is seen by the time structure of the higher harmonics of 24 Mg + in the Schottky diagram (Figure).

Most precise laser spectroscopic high-voltage measurements published
2018/03/05
We have published the result of high-precision measurements of high-voltages up to 20000 V in the current issue of the Journal Metrologia. An accuracy of 5 ppm was realized at the ALIVE experiment using Ca + ions. This is an improvement of a factor 20 compared to previous trials of laser-based high-voltage measurements.

Solution of the Hyperfine Puzzle ?
2018/03/01
In our latest publication we report on NMR measurements of bismuth ions in different chemical environments in Physical Review Letters . The extracted new value for the magnetic moment of the isotope bismuth-209 drastically reduces the large discrepancy between theory and experiment in the hyperfine splitting measurements of hydrogen-like and lithium-like ions.

New data for further investigations of the hyperfine Puzzle published
2018/02/28
Our article about the improved measurement of the magnetic moment of Bi-208 with the COLLAPS experiment at ISOLDE/CERN appeared in Physics Letters B. From the results we have also predicted the hyperfine structure splittings in hydrogen-like and lithium-like bismuth as well as the so-called specific difference of the two hyperfine structure splittings.

Installation of a liquid metal ion source at the ALIVE project
2018/01/22
A Liquid Metal Ion Source (LMIS) for the production of indium ions was successfully installed and commissioned at the ALIVE experiment. This ion source was designed and constructed at the TU Dresden and is usually used as an ion thruster for satellites.
