The vacuum chamber of the collinear beamline ALIVE for High-Voltage measurements has been completed (see photo) and a first calcium ion beam was tuned along the complete beamline.

High-Precision Test of QED in the 2p fine structure dublett of Be+ ions appeared in Physical Review Letters

We have determined the fine structure splitting of the 2 p states in Be + ions for stable and short-lived isotopes at COLLAPS . This leads to an improvement of the accuracy of the Be-9 fine structure splitting by two orders of magnitude

Most accurate measurement of the hyperfine structure in a heavy H-like ion published

Our new publication entitled “An improved value for the hyperfine splitting of hydrogen-like 209 Bi 82+ ” appeared in J. Phys. B and presents the most accurate measurement of a hyperfine transition in a heavy hydrogen-like ion that has so far been accomplished.

Measurements of the magnetic moments and electric quadrupole moments of the short-lived Calcium isotopes 47,49,51 Ca performed at COLLAPS appeared as “Rapid Communication” in Physical Review C.

It’s ALIVE!

The establishment of our laboratory at the TU Darmstadt and the set-up of the experiment for accurate high-voltage measurements (ALIVE: Accurate Laser Involved Voltage Evaluation) are progressing. A Ca + ion source and the first part of the required beam line have been installed
