Offline measurements on stable nickel isotopes are published
2021/05/11
Our paper on “Isotope-shift measurements and King-fit analysis in nickel isotopes” has been published in Physical Review C . Off-line measurements of stable nickel isotopes were performed at the BECOLA setup at MSU and are in good agreement with previous measurements at COLLAPS .

Laser Spectroscopy of C3+ at half the speed of light
2021/05/03
Spectroscopic results for the two 2 s -2 p resonance lines in lithium-like carbon ions appeared today in the journal Scientific Reports . The ions were stored in the experimental storage ring ESR at GSI at about half the speed of light and a new continuous-wave UV laser system

Mg+ beamtime at CRYRING@ESR
2021/04/10
A magnesium beam time took place at CRYRING@ESR from March 22 to 31. In advance, a new laser system was commissioned ( see here ), allowing us to address the ions simultaneously in collinear and anti-collinear geometry.

New Laser at CRYRING@ESR installed
2021/03/11
A Mixtrain from the Company Sirah Lasertechnik was installed in the laser laboratory at CRYRING@ESR . It is combined with the new MATISSE 2 titanium-sapphire laser and a wavetrain to produce light at 280-nm, which will be used in the beamtime on Mg + ions end of March.

Have we seen first optical pumping in a storage ring?
2021/02/04
This question is investigated in our paper published today in Physical Review Accelerators and Beams . We study optical pumping in the ESR using a rate equation approach to explain the disappearance of an optical resonance in Li + when changing for linear to circular polarized light.

First laser spectroscopic studies of short-lived Al isotopes published
2021/01/25
First laser spectroscopic results of short-lived Al isotopes appeared today in Physical Review C . The measurements were carried out at the COLLAPS beamline at ISOLDE/CERN. Besides the changes in charge radii, the magnetic and quadrupole moments were determined and compared with ab-initio calculations
