In my talk, I will present the latest advances in the theoretical study of medium and heavy muonic atoms. I will discuss the four largest QED contributions, current uncertainties, and the limitations in determining nuclear radii, illustrated by the case of the doubly magic nucleus ²⁰⁸Pb. Finally, I will address the feasibility of obtaining model-independent values of nuclear radii
