Installation of a liquid metal ion source at the ALIVE project

A Liquid Metal Ion Source (LMIS) for the production of indium ions was successfully installed and commissioned at the ALIVE experiment. This ion source was designed and constructed at the TU Dresden and is usually used as an ion thruster for satellites.

Annual COLLAPS Collaboration Meeting

The COLLAPS Collaboration Meeting was held on January 15-16 in Darmstadt. During the fruitful meeting, results from the beamtimes in 2017 as well as plans for beamtimes in 2018 were discussed.

In December the in-kind contracts between FAIR and Sweden were signed. Hence, tenders for the new superconducting magnet for SPECTRAP can be invited.

Magnetic moment and quadrupole moment of Fe-53 published
2017/11/17
The measurement of the magnetic dipole moment and the electric quadrupole moment of Fe-53 has been published in Physical Review C. The measurements were performed at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory NSCL with the BECOLA beamline , which has once more demonstrated its large potential for measurements on exotic isotopes.

Kristian König and Johannes Ullmann receive Giersch Awards

Dr. Johannes Ullmann was granted a “Giersch-Award for an Outstanding Doctoral Thesis” in a festive ceremony at the FIAS in Frankfurt, while Kristian König received a “Giersch-Excellence-Grant” for his achievements in the past year with the collinear high voltage measurements at ALIVE.

New fluorescence detection system goes on-line

The new fluorescence detection system developed for LASPEC and the beamline at ANL has succesfully passed its first on-line application. A copy of the device developed for the beamline at ANL went to the BECOLA facility at NSCL/MSU

G-PAC Results

All three proposals with contributions from LaserSphere were ranked top grade A by the scientific advisory committee at GSI. The granted beamtime is an excellent base for our future activities in the field of storage ring and ion trap experiments at GSI/FAIR.
