The Bonn Physics Show: a public outreach and a university education project
Prof. PhD Herbert Dreiner, Universität Bonn
The Bonn physics show was created by Michael Kortmann and myself in Dec. 2001. We have regularly been performing shows since. As our core activity we develop a new 2h show every 2 years (originally every year).
When?
May 16, 2025, 14:00-15:30
Where?
ZKS-Uhrturmhörsaal
S2|08, Raum 171
Hochschulstraße 4

Organiser
Fachbereich Physik
It is important that these shows are planned, developed, and performed by the University of Bonn physics students with a large degree of independence. Since 2004 the shows involve a story-line and are more like a play with live experiments.
We have developed 14 such shows. Further highlights include a particle physics show with which we have traveled throughout Germany (M, B, HH, MZ, FR, AC) and Europe (UK, I, DK, E, P, NL, CH, SVN, PL). We have more recently developed a Physics Show Musical (Phyusical) on astrophysics (Tü, BO).
In this talk I will try to explain how the physics show works, how it is essential that the students have a lot of freedom and how they embrace this responsibility. This has lead to a very high productivity (many shows and performances).
