At nonzero temperature and chemical potential, it is expected that a „moat“ regime arises in a large region in T and mu. In such a regime, the energy of the pion has a minimum at nonzero spatial momentum. Such a region may arise experimentally in STAR at low energies, and at CBM at FAIR. I discuss two signals of a moat regime: non-monotonic behavior in Hanbury Brown-Twiss radii (or correlation functions), and new thresholds in dilepton spectra.
