Naked Thallium-205 Ion Decay Reveals Sun’s History Over Millions of Years
2024/12/03
An experimental measurement of the bound-beta decay of fully ionised Tl-205, combined with a theoretical analysis performed within our SFB, has determined the absorption cross section for solar neutrinos interacting with Tl-205. This is a key ingredient for the analysis of the geochemical LOREX experiment, which aims to determine the flux of neutrinos from the sun and, thus, the sun's activity over the last four million years. This period includes human evolution and significant climate changes.
