Experiment 1.1 – Measurement of Magnetic Fields

In accelerator facilities, like the S-DALINAC, but also the LHC at CERN, magnets are used to shape the parameters of the accelerated beam bunches. The precise knowledge of the properties of the magnetic fields is of paramount importance for the calculation the beam dynamics required for both the initial planning of the layout of the facility and the operation. In this experiment measurements with different magnets are performed and their impact on the beam dynamics is discussed. Important parameters like the smoothness of the field of dipoles or the field gradient of quadrupoles are determined.
