Experiment 2.8a – Measurement of the Lifetime of Positronium in Matter
Aim of the experiment:
a) experimental method: time measurements in the ns regime
b) physics: positrons in matter
Preparation: fundamentals of gamma-ray spectroscopy with scintillators, function principle of a photomultiplier tube, signal shape at anode and cathode of the photomultiplier tube, function principle of a constant fraction discriminator, generation and decay of positronium.
