Alexander von Humboldt Fellow for Direct Reactions
First Theoretical Physicist joined the Group
Today, Mario Gómez (profile here) arrived as the first Alexander von Humboldt fellow. He obtained his fellowship for two years and will develop a formalism for a two-nucleon removal. In addition, he will actively participate at our physics programs at Riken and GSI / FAIR.
The Doubly-Magic Nucleus 78Ni
First Spectroscopy of 78Ni performed at RIBF (RIKEN)
The first spectroscopy of the 78Ni nucleus revealed the doubly-magic nature of the nucleus based on the first 2+ state at 2.6 MeV. At least as interesting is a second excited state at 2.9 Mev, which is assigned to a second 2+ state and interpreted as a sign of shape coexistence in this nucleus. – R.
