The existence of a long-lived isomer in 79Zn is confirmed at COLLAPS

2016/05/05

The existence of a long-lived isomer in 79Zn with a few hundred milliseconds half-life is confirmed by collinear laser spectroscopy at COLLAPS. The nuclear spins and moments of the ground and isomeric states in 79Zn as well as the isomer shift are measured and provide first evidence of shape coexistence in this region. The paper appeared at Physical Review Letters and has been distinguished as an Editors' Suggestion.
