Magnetic moment and quadrupole moment of Fe-53 published
2017/11/17
The measurement of the magnetic dipole moment and the electric quadrupole moment of Fe-53 has been published in Physical Review C. The measurements were performed at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory NSCL with the , which has once more demonstrated its large potential for measurements on exotic isotopes. Fe-53 is the first iron isotope for which the spectroscopic quadrupole moment of the nuclear ground state could be determined since the stable odd isotope Fe-57 has nuclear spin I=1/2 and therefore no quadrupole moment. The results for the magnetic moment have been used to predict the nuclear magnetic moment of the mirror nucleus Co-53. The work has been supported by our Collaborative Research Centre BECOLA beamline. SFB 1245
