Since its first commissioning in 1991 the S-DALINAC is a central large-scale research infrastructure of TU Darmstadt and its Institute for Nuclear Physics. It has been the major research facility for the completed Collaborative Research Center CRC 634 (Sonderforschungsbereich 634) which has expired in 2015 after its maximum possible duration of tenure of 12 years of funding provided by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). Today the S-DALINAC is a central research instrument of the DFG-funded Research Training Group RTG 2128 (Graduiertenkolleg 2128) and serves as an experimental facility for the DFG-funded CRC 1245 (Sonderforschungsbereich 1245).
The S-DALINAC is under constant development during students' theses (Bachelor, Master and Dissertation) to fulfill the needs in different areas of research. A view into the accelerator hall is shown in Figure 1.
