Project B02: Experimental exploration of electroweak interactions in nuclei

Project B02 will provide new insights into the quenching of the spin-isospin strength in nuclei common to electromagnetic and weak processes. These are achieved by studies of the spin-M1 resonance in heavy nuclei with high-resolution nuclear resonance fluorescence experiments and the measurement of transverse electron-scattering form factors of analog states to forbidden ground-state beta decays. The experiments will provide transition matrix elements and, in case of electron scattering, their momentum-transfer dependence. They will be confronted with predictions based on electroweak currents from chiral effective field theory.
