Project B05: Nuclear matter equation of state for astrophysical applications

In project B05, we apply two complementary approaches, chiral effective field theory at lower densities and the functional renormalization group starting from quark-gluon dynamics at higher densities, to obtain a quantitative determination of the nuclear matter equation of state over a wide range of densities, temperatures, and proton fractions. These studies involve a systematic quantification of theoretical uncertainties, a detailed investigation of chiral power counting at nuclear densities, and will provide numerical tables of the equation of state for astrophysical applications.
