Project B01: Electroweak interactions in nuclei and nuclear matter

Project B01 is advancing the description of electroweak processes of nuclei and nuclear matter, with impact on stellar evolution, supernova explosions, direct detection of dark matter, and the origin of the quenching of beta decays. We will explore the role of many-body correlations and two-body currents in Gamow-Teller and forbidden transitions. Chiral effective field theory will also be used to develop a full set of neutrino-matter interactions for supernova and merger simulations. We will advance the description of nuclei around neutron number N=50 to gain new insights in their production by the r-process and their role for the associated blue kilonova electromagnetic emission.
